Under The Lens: Hirsutism
Hirsutism is growing of excessive hair in women in areas where they generally don’t have hair, like the face or chest. Hirsutism is a symptom and not a disease and may be a sign of more serious medical conditions, especially if it develops well after puberty.
Studies show that high levels of insulin may be a cause of hirsutism. This is consistent with the observation that obese women are more prone to become hirsute.
